5 September 1986. Pan Am Flight 73, was hijacked by four terrorists during a stopover in Karachi, Pakistan and Neerja Bhanot was on duty as flight purser.
The hijackers were seeking revenge for American bombing on Tripoli, Libya captured the aircraft and what unfolded was a hostage crisis which lasted for 15 hours. Towards the end, it was the courage and presence of mind shown by Neerja that saved 359 of 379 passengers on board while Neerja died saving two Indian and one American kid. She was recognized internationally as “the heroine of the hijack” and became the youngest recipient of the Ashok Chakra Award, India’s most prestigious gallantry award for bravery during peacetime. The film is a tribute to Neerja’s courage and sacrifice.
26/11 2008 – A date imprinted in every Indian’s memory. A night that brings back the real stories of heroism. Tukaram Omble was a regular asst sub-inspector with Mumbai police at the DB Road police station. A family man, cricket enthusiast and an amiable person who was extremely popular with juniors and seniors alike.
26/11/2008 was a regular day for Tukaram who was looking forward to visiting his married daughter the next day. He was a happy cop on duty at Girgaon Chowpatty celebrating India’s 5-0 victory over England in the ODI series when he got the news of firing at Leopold, CST and Taj, and Trident hotels and was ordered nakabandi in order to stop the terrorists from heading northwards. Tukaram with his colleagues was in action immediately when he got the news that Ajmal Kasab and Ismail Khan had killed Karkare, Salasker and Kamte, three top cops of Mumbai police and were headed in a Skoda towards Chowpatty. Kasab and his friend rammed the Skoda into a divider and were confronted with a just a “danda” wielding Tukaram Omble. While Bhasker Kadam killed Ismail, Kasab fired indiscriminately at the police. The moment of reckoning had arrived for Tukaram he rushed towards Kasab taking all the bullets valiantly and caught him head-on while his colleagues arrested Kasab. It is due to this valiant effort of Tukaram Omble that India has a dreaded terrorist captured.
This film chronicles this brave act of Tukaram Omble and pays homage to him.
The story revolves around a young girl Rameshwari whose step-grandmother is hell-bent on getting rid of her. She turns to her only friend, Lord Hanuman, who takes the form of a boy and teaches the evil relatives a lesson. It is a heart warming story of faith and friendship.
